Makingof interviews Ben!
On writing for the 2009 Academy Awards.
Watch the film in it’s entirety free on Hulu! Check out my very brief cameo at 14:17.
YES! So excited about this.
I’ve checked out Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, SIFF, MTM, the New York Film Festival, etc., but for the very first time I’ll be participating in the 3rd Annual Bushwick Film Festival in Brooklyn on Sunday.
I find it so cool that Kweighbay Kotee and Laree Ross, two women who love film, created a festival in their neighborhood to provide an eclectic mix of creative “artists, innovators, enthusiasts, whackos, thinkers, do-it-yourselfers, and down right weirdos” as they say, a platform to present their work.
The festival starts tonight at 6 p.m. the Lumenhouse (47 Beaver St., Brooklyn) and a full line-up, which mixes documentaries, narratives, creative shorts and panels can be found here.
I’m going to be moderating a panel on “The Art of Digital Filmmaking: From Production to Distribution” at 7:15 p.m. at Lumenhouse and you may just recognize a few of the panelists…
- Josh Ruben, Director/Actor, CollegeHumor/Dutch West
- Vincent Peone, Cinematographer, CollegeHumor/DutchWest
- Jay Bulger, Director/Actor, Driving with Jay
I really can’t think of a better way to escape the rain than by coming out to Bushwick and watching and talking independent film all day, now can you? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
ghost assembly.
The new Mount Eerie record has found me.
Guess it’s finally cool that I post this! The shot of Josh flying out of the grave made 11 year old me all giggles. Josh Ruben, folks.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I was fortunate enough to have been introduced to the DP of the real Beetlejuice, Thomas Ackerman, a few months back. We talked quite a bit about this look, and the many other incredible films he’s shot: Jumanji, Back to School, Anchorman, and tons more. Talking with him first hand and studying the mood of the scene was so valuable in making this feel a fraction bit authentic.
123 people’s “tag cloud” perfectly sums up most keywords surrounding my existence.
With the help of good pal and fantastic editor Matt Pollock, I’ve put together a DP reel. I’ve never had a reel before, and with all the fun work lately, I figured why not compile some of my favorite moments and lighting setups into one montage. The goal with the first half was to create something that didn’t necessarily say “comedy,” showing the work in a more ambiguously dramatic way. Enjoy it!
