Yay!  Here’s a parody of “If I Were a Boy” I wrote with Sarah, called, “If I Were a Bro.”  I had written a different parody of this song (If I Were a Girl) but by the time I was done there were so many of those on YouTube I wasn’t confident in the idea anymore.  Luckily, CH-writer extrodinarre, Jason Michaels, emailed us and said we should do one called “If I Were a Bro.”

Now, I really, really like this one.  The very talented Eliza Skinner did the vocals, which are fantastic, Sarah is amazing as a douche-y guy,  The Josh/Corey 1-2 punch made the video look so beautiful, and, finally, Jon was a wonderful kisser.

Please Digg it if you like it.

Fun Fact: We shot this and Brohemian Rhapsody in the same Columbia frat house, featuring most of the same people.  Weird!

Really proud of this one. Great work, guys!

It turns out that I was not the first to scale the mammoth beast.

Behind the Scenes of “The CollegeHumor Show” Part Two
Being 25 is different than I thought. I bought my first suit last week, which immediately prompted my first suit rack. I think it’s the beginning of a new era in my life.

Aside from the pleasure it’s been being able to call him my friend, I have always known Sam to be one of the kindest, most organized, level-headed, and diplomatic people I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I once told him that I thought we would be working together a very long time. It’s been 5 years since the birth of DutchWest, and merely 3 since we started collaborating on CollegeHumor originals. Sam, Jordan, and I have logged so many hours on set that the idea of getting here actually makes me tear up. It’s been such a gift to meet all the incredible people that have come aboard along the way, and have become crucial to our team.
We made a TV show, guys. Love you.

The show’s tonight.
I dropped out of high school when I was 16.  Until I was hired at CollegeHumor, I wasn’t sure I could pull off the whole show business thing.  I did a month of background work on “Third Watch.”  I toured miserably with a children’s theater company.  I was Scott Caan’s stand-in in a terrible indy film.  And now, eight years later, I have a TV show.  My old drama teacher used to say, “It’s not how long you want something, it’s how long you want it for.”
While my name is all over this project, it doesn’t exist because of me.  It’s because David, Michael, and Scott have pulled four all-nighters a week for the past three weeks in the edit bay.  It’s because Vince nearly threw out his back holding a camera more than ever before in his life.  It’s because Dan and Amir followed through on their writing instincts despite the worst kind of pressure.  It’s because Elaine made do with kisses on the cheek when she was already asleep.  It’s because fifty people synchronously rose to the occasion.
I’m full of pride, embarrassment, and excitement.  Please forgive our self-involvement and, for God’s sake, enjoy.

Some years back the venerable Sam Reich called me up and asked me to be a part of a video he was shooting for a new website he was working for - collegehumor.com. I thought “isn’t that that site where they have videos of people drinking beer and farting?” But as I was an uber-fan of dutchwest (and of Mr. Reich himself) I said sure, why not. I had nothing to lose but my dignity and self-respect. So I trekked out to Barcade in Brooklyn to find a bare bones production with just Sam, Vinnie, a handheld camera, and two quiet-seeming guys, Dan and Jordan. I did my bit, left, and thought nothing else of it other than “wow, I’m terrible on camera” and “Sam seems way too good for that place but I guess we all gotta pay the bills somehow.” Little did I know that I was witnessing the birth of a new comedy empire. In retrospect it was like I had seen Gallagher smashing cantaloupes in Weehawken in 1979. A few tweaks and a few years later and College Humor would be set to rule the comedy world. Because that video became Street Fighter : The Later Years and collegehumor.com became, well, a site that has their own TV show premiering tonight on MTV. Yes, that MTV. It seems totally surreal to me and I’m sure infinity times more so for those involved. And I couldn’t be happier for them and more proud to have been, in my own microscopic and completely insignificant way, a part of it. It just proves those people wrong who said that if you give smart and talented people loads of money and unlimited creative freedom that nothing good would come of it. What did they know?

So congrats all. And best of luck. I’ll be watching. Proudly.
